Safety Alert . Dry Robes have become very popular of late especially for Swimmers. With the recent poor weather they have also become the coxes favourite however Most people don't realise that they come with a manufacturers warning that they should not be worn while afloat as they carry a serious risk of causing drowning as they are very heavy when in the water and may cause a person to be unable to swim or float. They are also so long that they prevent the use of a crotch strap of a life jacket been fastened and thus there is a risk of the Life Jacket slipping up over the wearers head also when the Life Jacket is inflated it can put extra pressure on the chest which can affect breathing. For all the above reasons the Club is prohibiting the use of Dry robes while coxing / rowing or in the safety boat. A Safety Alert will also be issued by the Rowing Ireland Safety Advisory Committee in the coming week. Be safe.
